(PLanting On Whitaker)

PLOW broke ground in the spring of 2016 with a mission to serve God by reaching out to the community and feeding the hungry. The nine raised garden beds, fruit trees, and pollinator garden have been tended by neighborhood gardeners, a Girl Scout troop, a middle school group, a summer camp program and loyal Wesley church members. Eagle Scout projects contributed benches, compost bins and a work table. The garden has produced hundreds of pounds of produce that are donated to local groups working to feed the hungry.
PLOW’s partnership with the Elwyn Adult Behavior Health Services Drop-in Center (formerly Fellowship Health Resources) is one of our greatest joys and successes. The adult clients and counselors from the Center have gardened with us since that first summer. Their willingness to show up and work throughout the year, especially in the summer heat, keeps the garden growing.

For the last two years the West Raleigh Rotary Club has provided resources and hours of labor to help the garden be more productive with more vegetables to share. We appreciate their dedication and service.
PLOW is grateful for many donations of money and items through the years. We want to give a special thank you to our neighbor, Jim Kellison, who helped us start the garden with a donation of many of our fruit trees and gardening supplies. He also shares flower and vegetable plants from his own greenhouse each year. Jim continues to be a benefactor of the garden through the sale of his wonderful artwork. The church is honored to display several of his pieces. Thank you, Jim. PLOW truly wouldn’t exist without you!

PLOW welcomes neighborhood gardeners and service groups. If you would like to volunteer, email kim@wesley-church.org
