Learn and Lead with Harvey Carey
November 10th, 2009What would you do if the odds were stacked against you? Harvey Carey, founding pastor of the Citadel of Faith Covenant Church, in Detroit, Michigan, found himself in such a predicament. His call was to start a church in Detroit’s poorest zip code – the poorest zip code in the United States – with no community pastoral support in a place he had no connections. It seemed the odds were stacked against him. Carey held tight to his call and sought God’s wisdom and strength as he reached out to the community equipping people for the work of ministry. Today, the Citadel of Faith is a place of faith, love, and mission all for the glory of God.
This summer Pat Brafford, Sandy Barker, David Parker, and I heard Carey speak at the Leadership Summit. His message was extremely moving and one that we want to share with you as we discern God’s desire for Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. We look forward to sharing his message on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, with the video beginning at 5:30 and discussion following ending by 7:30. This is bring your own dinner event.
I would also like to encourage to listen to his message in preparation for this Learn and Lead Event. Audio CDs are available from the church office or contact David Parker at davidparker@wesley-church.org.
In Christ’s humble service,
